The Japan Institute of
Energy(abbreviated as JIE) was founded in 1922, initiated as the Fuel Society of Japan.It
has contributed to the progress of science and technology related to fuel or energy and
played its role as the sole authoritative professional society in developing fuel and
The Society has grown with the progress of new fuels and energy conversion technologies.
The new name,"Japan Institute of Energy", was adopted in December 1991,
celebrating its 70th anniversary.
It now holds almost 1600 members including 350 organizing members. The Society covers not
only fuel industries but also steel, gas, electricity, chemical and ceramic industries.
